God Prepared A Fish

“…the LORD had prepared a great fish...” Jonah 1:17 (NKJV)

This fish wasn’t like any of the other fish in the sea. Contrary to what many believe, the Bible doesn’t say it was a whale, just a very large fish. It was so big that it could swallow a prophet whole without hurting him, no chewing involved. We don’t know much about it other than that, but we can surmise a few things, knowing the nature of God and how He works. Since God never gets in a hurry, He may have taken a hundred years or more to slowly grow and transform this fish from what it had been when it hatched to what it would be when the time came for it to live out its calling. Then He sent it right where it needed to be, at exactly the right time. He left nothing to chance. He never does.

This verse perfectly describes the course of my life. God spent fifty years transforming and preparing me to live out my calling. Then, when the time came, He sent me right where I needed to be, at exactly the right time. He left nothing to chance. He never does.

Recently I was reading Psalm 97 in the New Living Translation.  I only got as far as verse two before I stopped, surprised.  It says, in the last half of the verse, “…righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne.”  My first thought was that the NLT...

During my atheist decades I thought Christianity was just a belief system or philosophy, like so many other man-made systems.  After coming back to Jesus at age forty-seven, I realized it is actually a supernatural relationship with the Creator of the universe.
