God-and

“When religion has said its last word, there is little that we need other than God Himself. The evil habit of seeking God-and effectively prevents us from finding God in full revelation. In the ‘and’ lies our great woe. If we omit the ‘and’ we shall soon find God, and in Him we shall find that for which we have all our lives been secretly longing.”

— A.W. Tozer, The Pursuit of God

God created everything in this universe. All life was created by Him and is sustained by Him. He is complete purity, with no contamination. Therefore, if we, the finite beings here on earth, could possibly add something to God, He would then be less than He was before. God-and means God-diluted. Everything else is less than God.

We all come into this world with a hole in our soul. When we turn our lives over to Him, He fills the emptiness with Himself. Then if we try to add something so there is God-and, we dilute the essence of Him in us, creating pollution in our hearts and minds that wasn’t there before.

If someone goes into a store and buys an energy drink, then adds it to the gas tank of their car, the gasoline is diminished, diluted and contaminated, not enhanced. It works in the opposite direction, too. If we decide to add gasoline to our iced tea we have contaminated what was supposed to nourish us.

God-and mysticism, God-and new age religions, philosophies and belief systems not based on biblical teaching…all are distortions of simply-God. God-and our own agendas, God-and sports, God-and making money—God-and anything becomes dilution of the one true God.

Satan does not have to derail our train to keep us from arriving at intimacy with God. He only has to get us to willingly go down the wrong track. We will not arrive at our destination, which is just as effective as a complete derailment would have been. He can accomplish that by tempting us to add what we think God needs in order to make Him complete. They are all God-and. God-and anything else is a substandard, counterfeit copy of the Real Deal.

Timothy 6:15-16—…God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light…

2 Corinthians 7:1—“…let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates…perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.”

James 1:27 says, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted…”

Ephesians 4:22 “…put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires…”
